| CVMAssist |
|
CVMAssist is used to forcibly ensure that the Guest VM has the exact same date and time as the Host VM. This program can only run as a service inside of a Windows operating system as a guest virtual machine in VMWare. This program will crash if you try to run it outside of a VMWare virtual machine. When running, the program will continually monitor how often the updates happen and what direction the time was out by. If the timing of the VM changes, CVMAssist will adjust how it updates as necessary. See known compatibility issues below.
Known Compatibility Issues 1. If the VM's clock is "running away", gaining time faster than 1 second per 7 real seconds, CVMAssist will be forced to update the system clock repeatedly. Some versions of Microsoft Outlook (and certainly other programs as well) refresh the user interface whenever they detect a change to the system clock. This can result in an unusable interface. In this situation there is no way to keep the clock accurate to the second and keep the software functional. The only workaround would be to not use the CVMAssist service and instead use the Windows Task Scheduler to call CMVAssist's command line option as often as necessary to keep the clock reasonably close and disrupt the user interface as little as necessary.
